São Paulo – The number of imported vehicles licensed in Brazil was down 40% in October this year from October 2011. There was also a 0.1% decline from September 2012, and a 32.2% decline year-to-date through October 31st, according to figures supplied by the Brazilian Association of Motor Vehicle Importing Companies (Abeiva).
A total of 9,032 imported units were licensed in October, and 111,759 units were licensed year-to-date through October 31st.The total number of licensed vehicles – imported and domestic-made – was up 3.73% year-to-date, at 2.9 million units. Total number of licensed vehicles was also up in October from October 2011 and from September 2012.
Abeiva projections indicate that 130,000 imported vehicles should be licensed by the end of the year, up 10,000 from the previous estimate for 2012. “Still, the total annual figure will be down 35% from 2011, when roughly 200,000 units were licensed,” says Abeiva president Flavio Padovan.
