São Paulo – The Brazilian industry output registered a decline of 6.3% between January and June of this year in comparison to the same period of last year, according to data released this Tuesday (4th) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). In June alone, the decline stood at 3.2% in comparison to the same period in 2014 and at 0.3% over May of this year.
Over May, there was a decline of the industry output in 15 of the 24 sectors surveyed, especially in the sectors of machinery and equipment (decline of 7.2%), computing, electronics and optical equipment (-12.7%) and auto, trailers and truck bodies (-2.8%).
In the year-to-date performance, the production of auto, trailers and truck bodies registers a decline of 20.7% in industry output, with computing, electronics and optics equipment going down 27.8%. Of the 805 products analyzed by IBGE, 70.1% registered a decline in output.
