São Paulo – Brazilian auto exports increased 16.6% in this year’s first half over the same period of last year, according to information released this Monday (6th) by the National Association of Automakers (Anfavea). In June alone, in comparison to the same month of last year, international sales of the sector almost doubled, increasing 96.8%.
The data regards light vehicles, trucks and buses. According to the sector’s balance sheet, 197,348 units were shipped from January to June, a little more than the 28,000 vehicles in the first six months of 2014. Last month, automakers based in Brazil exported 48,068 automotive vehicles, 23,643 more units than in June of 2014.
From the total exported in the first half, as mentioned above, the majority was of light vehicles, which includes cars and light commercial vehicles: 183,892 units. Taking into account only this segment, without buses and trucks, Brazilian exports increased 17.3% from January to June and 103.6% in June only. Last month, automakers of light vehicles exported 37,962 units, according to Anfavea.
International trade was one of the few good news about the first half released by the association. Auto manufacturing dropped 18.5% from January to June over the same months of 2014, with a total of 1.2 million units. In the same period of last year, 1.56 million units were manufactured. In June, over the same month of last year, there was also a decline of 14.8% in production with 210,300 units.
According to news published in Brazilian websites from the press conference that took place this Monday, in June 1,200 jobs were cut in the sector. The companies are taking this measure, besides mandatory vacation and staff temporary layoffs, to match its storage to the demand. In June, storage of vehicles in dealers’ yards stood at 47 days of sale over 51 in May.
