São Paulo – Jordanian business executives are planning on holding actions designed to enhance trade between their country and Brazil. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce’s Government Relations manager Tamer Mansour and International Relations executive for the Levant and the Nile Denise Barbalho Guirau paid a visit to the Jordanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry this week, and the latter expressed interest in sending executives from importing companies on a mission to Brazil.
The information was supplied by Mansour. According to him, the Jordanian Chamber plans on arranging to send a business delegation late this year or early in the next one, with people from some 20 local companies. The areas of interest should be foodstuffs, infrastructure, machinery, renewable energy and tourism. In the latter case, the idea is to encourage reciprocal tourism between Brazil and Jordan.
The Arab Chamber team also paid a visit to the Jordan Arab Businessman Association and were told that the latter wants to organize a Brazil-Jordan forum for discussing investments and trade partnerships next year. Specific sites have not been discussed yet. Mansour and Guirau also visited the Embassy of Brazil in Amman, the Jordan Investment Commission, the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Exporters and the Jordan Customs. The country is a pharma producer and imports several raw materials to this end.
At the Jordan Customs, they discussed online certification. The Arab Brazilian Chamber issues certificates of origin and carries out certification of export papers for the Arab countries. The process is being transferred to an online environment, which should reduce times and costs. However, the new system’s implementation hinges on partnerships with the customs departments of the countries involved. The two Arab Chamber executives discussed the subject at the Jordan Customs, and their systems might be integrated soon for information sharing purposes only. The online system is about to get final approval from the country’s legislative authorities.
The two Arab Chamber professionals arrived in Jordan on Tuesday (1st) and stayed in the country until Thursday (3rd). They also convened with food industry executives.
At this time they are in Lebanon, where they will remain until Saturday (5th). They have already attended a few meetings in the country, with the Brazilian ambassador in Beirut, Jorge Kadri, and with supermarkets that import Brazilian products. Next week they will be in Egypt.
