São Paulo – MPs from Kuwait on a visit to São Paulo this Friday (2nd) said that Brazil has companies in sectors such as agriculture and environment and infrastructure projects that could receive investments from businesses from the Arab country in the next few years.
The group is formed by MPs from Kuwait’s National Assembly, who arrived in Brazil early in the week and, on Monday (29th), met with Brazilian vice-president Michel Temer (PMDB). In the House of Representatives, they were welcomed by members of Congress Átila Lins (Social Democratic Party-Amazonas), Leonardo Quintão (Brazilian Democratic Movement Party-MG) and the president of the Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee Jô Moraes (Communist Party of Brazil-MG), and in the Senate they discussed the creation of a special parliamentary commission in Brazil tasked with Kuwait matters.
The head of the delegation, Askar Al Enizi, said to ANBA that the visit had the goal of strengthening the ties between Brazil and Kuwait and between both countries’ legislative branches. He noted, however, that Brazil has sectors of the economy that can benefit from the Arab country’s investments.
“To invest it’s imperative to know the place that will receive the investment. We want to organize a visit of Kuwait’s businessmen to Brazil to raise the level of investments and trade promotion”, said Enizi. He, along with two other MPs and two advisors were welcomed, this Friday (2nd), by senior advisor for International and Institutional Relations of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Ramez Goussous, and by the executive of International Business of the organization for the Gulf, Rafael Solimeo.
Other Kuwaiti MP, Mohammad Huwailah, listed the sectors of environment, agriculture and infrastructure as those of great potential to investors. “There are several strategic sectors for financial support. We want also to receive Brazilian businessmen over there”, he said.
He also said that the delegation invited Brazilian members of Congress to visit his country soon, since the last meeting between members of the Brazilian and Kuwaiti congresses was in 2006. “When we meet with shorter in-between intervals, we fill in the spaces and can achieve further results for our proposals”, he said.
The MPs said that Temer presented to them the projects Brazil has in the ports, highways, railways and airports sectors. With the members of Congress, the Kuwaitis also discussed sports and diplomacy. “We talked about the possibility of earning the support from Brazil in a project to develop the skills of our athletes, especially in soccer”, said Huwailah.
The MP Fares Alotaibi, who is also part of the delegation, said that the visit was a great opportunity to expand trade relations between the two countries and experience exchange between both congresses. “The authorities showed great confidence in Kuwait and the disposition in getting more information about our country. We want to receive Brazilians members of Congress and businessmen and expand our contact”, he said.
