São Paulo – Next Tuesday (20) at 7 pm will see Vale do Itajaí University (Univali) host a lecture on logistics in Brazilian-Arab trade. The speaker will be the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce’s Information Management coordinator Marcus Vinícius. The lecture is intended for students and businesspersons, and registration is available on the Univali website.
Vinícius will give an overview of Arab countries and the size of their economies. He will cover the current scenario in Brazilian-Arab trade, the main countries and goods involved, and how said goods are transported. He will also discuss shipping companies and the time it takes for goods shipped from Brazil to reach Arab countries and vice versa.
The lecture is being held via an Arab Chamber-Univali partnership. Last May saw the Chamber open a branch in Itajaí, on which local businesses which ship product to Arab countries can rely to certify export papers and for support in doing business in the Middle East and North Africa. Vinícius will talk about these services. The Itajaí office is the Arab Chamber’s first-ever branch outside its São Paulo headquarters. The city was chosen due to the area’s economic profile as a food-producing region. Foodstuffs are the top-selling Brazilian product in Arab countries. Itajaí is also home to the eponymous Port of Itajaí (pictured at the top of this story), which plays an important role in trade with Arab nations.
Since last August, the Arab Chamber has been hosting a series of lectures on Arab countries at Univali. The goal is to convey information to local students and executives regarding the potential of Arab countries as trading partners of Brazil’s. Past lectures have covered the challenges facing Brazilian-Arab trade and opportunities in selling halal products – i.e. those made in accordance with Islamic rule – to Arab countries.
