São Paulo – Mauritania grew 6.9% last year, according to figures disclosed by the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation to the country, Mercedes Verra Martin, at the end of a mission to the country, last week. She said that the country had a good performance, marked by consolidation of stability and by a vigorous return to economic activity, despite the difficult international conjecture. The information was disclosed by African news agency Panapress.
According to Martin, the rate of growth was boosted mainly by services, agricultural production and the civil construction and public works sector. Mauritania is in North Africa and is an Arab nation. The country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) totalled US$ 4 billion in 2012, according to figures disclosed by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Half of the population depends on agriculture and livestock. Mauritânia also has great iron ore reserves, which represent almost half the country’s exports.
