São Paulo – Brazilian food firm JBS opened three new green offices to expand the efforts towards environmental sustainability in agriculture.
The green office project began nearly two years ago and sees the opening of service points that help in the environmental regularization of farms in livestock farming regions.
So far 4,800 farms have been assisted.
The three new offices added to the project are in the municipalities of Araguaína, Tocantins, Naviraí, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Vilhena, Rondônia. Now the initiative features 18 units.
JBS said over 1,000 hectares have been turned into forest recovery land.
The offices offer free environmental legal guidance to support cattle raisers comply with socio-environmental requirements.
These units also showcase and advise farmers in its register on the Transparent Livestock Farming Platform, a free blockchain technology platform that allows JBS suppliers to see whether their supply chain is socially and environmentally compliant
“The Green Offices were born out of the vision that simply blocking cattle purchases from a cattle farmer that is not compliant with our buying policies won’t solve the environmental challenges Brazil faces. You have to develop inclusive actions and positive impacts by providing free socio-environmental and technical assistant and support in the process of regulating their land so that they can contribute to make the Brazilian livestock farming chain even more sustainable,” said Liège Correia, Sustainability director of Friboi.
Friboi is JBS’s leading beef firm in Brazil.
