São Paulo – Brazilian poultry sales to the Middle East were up 5.1% from January to November this year from the same period in 2012. According to industry figures released this Monday (16th) by the Brazilian Poultry Union (Ubabef, in the Portuguese acronym), year-to-date through November, 1.331 million tonnes of poultry were shipped from Brazil to the region.
The second leading importing region from Brazil was Asia, at 1.032 million tonnes (down 0.6%), followed by Africa at 483,000 tonnes, down 12.9% from the same period last year.
Brazil exported a total of 3.567 million tonnes of chicken meat this year, down 0.3% in volume shipped from January to November 2012. Export revenues stood at US$ 7.349 billion during the period, up 5.2% from the same period in 2012.
The year
The Ubabef estimates that Brazil should have exported 4.082 million tonnes by the end of 2013, down 1.35% from 2012. Combined revenues should reach US$ 8.580 billion, up 2.6%.
The Ubabef expects poultry production volume to be up 3% to 4% in 2014 from 2013. Exports should grow less, from 2% to 2.5%. In a press statement, Ubabef chairman Francisco Turra has said exports are expected to “move away” from production because strong domestic demand is expected as a result of Brazil’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup.
