São Paulo – Last week, a Mercedes-Benz lorry manufacturing plant was inaugurated in Juiz de Fora, in the state of Minas Gerais. The unit, designed to be the most cutting-edge one of the German automaker, will manufacture two models of trucks, which will be sold domestically and exported.
Mercedes-Benz invested 450 million reals (US$ 234 million) to adapt its facilities in Juiz de Fora, which formerly produced passenger vehicles. The unit was completed within a year and a half, and will make Accelo light trucks and Actros extra heavy trucks.
Brazil is the leading market in the world for Mercedes-Benz trucks.
In addition to its recently inaugurated plant, Mercedes owns four plants in Latin America, São Bernardo do Campo and Campinas, in the state of São Paulo, and in Colombia and Argentina. The plant in Juiz de Fora has an area of 2,800 square metres and 900 direct employees. It has been operating since January and has produced 3,000 units.
