São Paulo – Petrobras announced this Monday (26) that it broke a record of oil processing in 2014. According to the company, 2.1 million barrels, on average, were refined per day (bpd) last year. The volume represents an increase of 1.7% over 2013, or 34,000 more barrels per day.
Among the monthly records reached last year, Petrobras stated that 2.172 million bpd were refined in June. In March, 2,151 oil barrels were refined per day.
In a press release, the company said that the expansion in refining was obtained through improvements on operational efficiency. Besides the distillation plants, in which the oil is separated from water and salts, the fuel treatment plants produced more.
The diesel treatment plants processed 632,700 bpd, or 94,300 bpd more than 2013, while the plants that transform heavy oils into propene, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and gas processed 565,400 bpd, a figure that overcame 2013 production in 15,700 bpd.
