São Paulo – The Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras announced today (19) that it is prospecting business opportunities in Qatar. The president of the company, José Sérgio Gabrielli, was in the Arab country on Sunday (17), along with other Petrobras executives, and discussed the possibilities of importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) and operating in exploration and production in Qatar.
According to a press release issued by Petrobras, the Brazilian delegation met the vice-prime-minister and minister of Energy and Industry in the country, Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiya, the minister of State, Mohammad Saleh Al-Sada, and executives from state-owned companies Qatar Petroleum and Rasgas.
According to Petrobras, the CEO at Qatar Petroleum International, Nasser Khalil Al-Jaidah, showed interest in doing joint business in other countries, and operating in the Brazilian thermoelectric energy sector. The two companies, according to Petrobras, are considering signing a memorandum of understanding in order to further the discussions.
Accompanying Gabrielli, were the director for gas and energy at Petrobras, Ildo Sauer, the executive manager for marketing and energy sales, Luiz Antonio Pereira, the manager for development of market supply alternatives in the LNG field, Marcio Demori, and the managers in the field of new international businesses, Demarco Jorge and Bassim Dhajah.
