São Paulo – Brazilian poultry exports increased 3.2% in February in comparison to the same month of last year. According to data made public by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), 330,200 tons worth of products were shipped last month, against 319,900 tons in February 2016, with all products included – fresh, sausages and processed meats.
Regarding revenues, the results were even better: up 24% in the same comparison to USD 566.2 million.
According to ABPA’s president, Francisco Turra, important markets, buyers of large volumes, contributed to the result: “Major importers such as Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Hong Kong and the European Union increased their purchases in February, boosting the results in a month that, traditionally, posts a below-average performance due to fewer business days,” he said in a statement.
Year-to-date, poultry exports totaled 693,100 tons, up 8.9% over the first two months of last year, when shipments reached 636,700 tons. Revenues went up 28.7% in this period, totaling USD 1.167 billion, the best result in the first two months the last four years.
Arabs
ABPA believes that poultry and egg exporters could generate USD 250 million in the next twelve months due to their participation in the fair Gulfood, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Sixteen companies from the agribusiness sector attended the trade show and made contact with clients and potential importers in the region. During the fair, they sold over USD 15 million.
According to the association, over 2,500 shawarma sandwiches and 1,500 omelettes were served in an area built for the presentation of Brazilian products. Marketing material in English and Arabic were also distributed during the fair, which ended last Thursday (2).
