São Paulo – Photographs of beautiful tourist spots in Lebanon will be on show in São Paulo from Thursday (1) until October 13 in an exhibit entitled Líbano: Patrimônio da Humanidade (Lebanon: World Heritage). The showing is organized by the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Association, which took the opportunity to promote Tourism in the Arab country since the United Nations has proclaimed 2017 the International Year of Sustainable Tourism.
The 50-photo exhibit will be divided into two showings featuring 25 pictures each and taking place concurrently at two locations in São Paulo, including Reserva Cultural, from June 1 to 27, metro station Sé, beginning on the 7th, and then stations República, in July, and Paraíso, in August. In July and August the fotos will also be featured in CEU Alvarenga. From September 18 to October 13 the pictures will be on show at Memorial da América Latina.
“The exhibition highlights Lebanon’as historical and tourist towns in photographs provided by the Lebanese Ministry of Tourism, which we have a partnership with,” says the cultural association’s president Lody Brais. Prominently featured sites include Anjar, Baalbek, Byblos, Tyre, the Holy Valley of Kadisha and the Cedars of God, which have been declared World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco). Brais notes that the pictures were taken by renowned Lebanese photographers.
The Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Association will host an official opening ceremony on June 19 at Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, the city theater, at 8pm. The event is free of charge, but attendees are expected to bring 1 kg of non-perishables for donations to refugees. During the ceremony, a 5-minute film on tourism in Lebanon will be shown, and there will be musical performances by artists including Sami Bordokan, Julianne Daud, Guiomar Milan Chediak, and folk dance group Nasser Mohamed.
Lottery
The association also entered into a partnership with the Brazilian Savings Bank (Caixa Econômica Federal) whereby photos of Lebanon will be printed on lottery tickets. The tickets will be on sale from lotto retailers in the second half of June and the winner will be drawn on July 8. Brais explains that these special-edition tickets will be available with approximately eight photos.
