São Paulo – Five Arab doctors who are in Brazil to see the liver transplant and abdominal surgery methods used at the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital, in São Paulo, said Brazilian medicine is among the best in the world, and that the country can help perfect medical procedures in Arab countries. Since their arrival in Brazil, last Sunday (7th), they received theory training and even watched patients undergo procedures at the hospital.
“We were very impressed with the experience, because the technique and the quality have much exceeded our expectations. I have worked in several hospitals in Europe, and here I have seen an administrative and medical system superior to many places I’ve known,” said Samir Moussa, the surgery and liver transplant professor at Cairo’s Ahmed Teaching Hospital, during a visit to the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce last week. They were welcomed by the Arab Brazilian Chamber’s CEO, Michel Alaby, director Toufic Sleiman, and government relations executive Tamer Mansour.
The doctors travelled to Brazil by initiative of the Egyptian Embassy to Brasília. According to Moussa, they were also sent to the country on behalf of the Egyptian Ministry of Health. According to the visitors, the trip to the country is also the beginning of a project which should take two years to perfect the quality of medical services in Palestine. Of the five doctors who are in Brazil, three work at the Palestinian Medical Complex, in Ramallah, in the West Bank.
They said the methods used at the Syrian-Lebanese could be “swiftly” implemented in Egypt. However, they said that in order to perform complex surgeries such as liver transplants in Palestine, the local medical infrastructure would require improvement. The doctors also said Brazil and Egypt could help Palestine develop its medical infrastructure.
A tip to Brazilians
The Arab doctors should remain in São Paulo until October 28th, but they have already given Brazilians a tip: “It’s too bad that the medicine performed and developed here is not seen abroad the way we have seen it and admired it in our visit to Brazil. You must advertise it,” said Moussa.
