Unopposed, five nations were elected Thursday (6) to serve as non-permanent members on the UN Security Council. Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi spoke of strengthening the cooperation between the Security Council and the African Union.

The Brazilian government chaired a United Nations Security Council meeting this Sunday (8) on the attacks in Israel and Gaza. The country reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution in the region, with an economically viable Palestinian State in peace and security with Israel.
Taking over the presidency for a one-month term, the country will advocate for the importance of bilateral institutions to mediate conflicts.
For the fourth time, the country has been named a non-permanent member, alongside Estonia, Niger, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Vietnam.
