São Paulo –Tangier Free Zone will receive a cold room which will enable it to store up to 40,000 tonnes of foodstuff. The information was released this Thursday (23) in a statement by the Tangier-Med Special Agency.
The project will see the construction of a cutting-edge cooling unit which, besides storing, will also be used for conserving, labelling, packaging and making small transformations in the products.
The cost of the project is US$ 10 million and it is being financed by Moroccan, Spanish and North American investors. The cooling unit will facilitate the sales of agricultural products to the US market and will enable the Moroccan governmental agencies to perform regulatory controls from Morocco.
The cooling unit will benefit, mainly, Moroccan producers of fruit, vegetables and seafood. The facility will occupy, in its first phase, an area of 6,600 square metres, and also create 55 new jobs.
According to data compiled by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, in 2013, Morocco exported US$ 987.56 million worth of fish and seafood. Vegetable and greens exports amounted to US$ 827.05 million and fruit, to US$ 699.9 million.
