São Paulo – The number of Brazilians who visited Jordan in the first ten months this year has increased over the same period of last year. According to information released by the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), 7,773 Brazilian tourists have had overnight stays in the Arab country from January to October 2012, as against 7,318 people in the same period of 2011, a 6.2% increase.
There has also been an increase in number of visits by Brazilians who have remained in the country for a single day, combining the trip to Jordan with trips to other nearby countries. The number of Brazilian tourists who fit that profile has gone from 1,590 in the first ten months of last year to 1,730 in the same period of 2012, up 8.8%.
The two visitor profiles combined have amounted to a total of 9,504 Brazilian visitors from January through October, up 6.7% from the same period of 2011, when the total was 8,908.
The promotion of Jordan as a tourist destination has increased in Brazil. Last year, Interamerican Network, a tourism and travel-oriented marketing and public relations agency, started representing the JTB in Brazil. Several actions were promoted to attract more Brazilians to Jordan, such as the participation of the JTB in fairs and meetings with representatives of Brazilian agencies and tour operators.
Overall tourism has also grown in Jordan during the period. According to Jordanian Central Bank preliminary figures released by Interamerican, industry revenues were up 17.6% from January to October this year compared with the same period in 2011, having gone from 1.7 billion Jordanian dinars (US$ 2.5 billion at current exchange rates) to 2 billion Jordanian dinars (US$ 2.95 billion).
