São Paulo – The 19th edition of the MIT, the Tunisian Travel and Tourism Fair, is scheduled to take place from April 24th to 27th in Tunis, Tunisia. At the request of exhibitors, the 2013 edition should be set up in a greater exhibition space than in recent years and should be in April, not May, as at this time of the year there are other fairs of the kind in the region and as it is possible to attract more people.
The event offers opportunities for several kinds of enterprises in the travel sector: car rental, travel agencies, airlines, event promotion agencies, hotels and restaurants. The fair should also attract operators from several travel modes: ecological, cultural, for safaris in the Sahara, radical sport tourism, like diving and hunting, and nautical sports tourism.
During the MIT, the Golf Expo, a fair dedicated to products related to golf, should also be promoted. According to the organizers of the event, the country has ten golf courses and plans to build another ten, as it is receiving a great number of tourists from other countries in the Mediterranean who are seeking activities related to sports.
In this edition of Golf Expo there should be producers of golf equipment, gyms and suppliers of services related to sports. The fair should be promoted in partnership with the Tunisian Association of Golf Course Managers.
Growing sector
The travel sector is growing in North Africa despite the political instabilities in the region. According to the World Travel Organisation (UNWTO), from January to August this year, travel grew 10% as against the same period in 2011.
According to the institution, the 10% growth in tourism in North Africa and 6% all over the continent should be attributed to recovery of the sector in Tunisia, as Egypt, another country that attracts many tourists, is still suffering with political problems and saw a 1% drop in tourist arrivals this year. However, the country showed "promising" results, in the evaluation of the UNWTO, as in 2011 the drop had reached 7%.
