São Paulo – Automobile, light commercial vehicle, truck and bus chassis exports from Brazil reached an all-time high in the first quarter of the year, at 180,200 units shipped, up 3.3% year-over-year, the National Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (Anfavea) said this Thursday (5).
Revenue from exports climbed 22.3% to USD 4.089 billion, including agricultural machinery, auto parts and engineering services.
March alone saw 67,500 units shipped, down 2.6% from March 2017 and up 1.8% from February. Revenue came out to USD 1.575 billion, up 18.4% from March and 6.5% from February.
Vehicle output amounted to 699,700 units in Q1, up 14.6% year-on-year, and 267,500 units in March, up 13.5% from March 2016 and 25.3% from February.
Domestic sales climbed 15.6% to 545,500 automobiles, light commercial vehicles, trucks and bus bodies sold. In March, 207,400 units were sold, up 9.6% from March 2017 and 32.2% from February.
Imported vehicle sales were up 22.5% to 63,800 units in Q1. Up until the end of last year, each importing company had a maximum quota of vehicles to import with a tax break. This ceased to be the case in early 2018: charges are reduced no matter the amount.
