São Paulo – Vehicle exports from Brazil were down 50.6% in units and 39.5% in revenue year-on-year in August. According to data released this Thursday (4th) by the National Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (Anfavea, in the Portuguese acronym), a total of 31,651 cars, trucks and buses were shipped last month.
In August 2013, 64,071 units had been exported. Value-wise, exports in August this year amounted to US$ 1.016 billion. In the same month last year, foreign sales amounted to US$ 1.678 billion.
Data from Anfavea also show a decline in exports year-to-date through August. From January through August this year a total of 235,431 units of automobiles, trucks and buses were exported, while in the same period last year foreign sales amounted to 380,507 units, a decline of 38.1%.
The decline in exports has also hit the agricultural machinery sector. In August, 1,309 units of tractors, harvesters, cultivators and backhoe loaders were exported. In the same period last year, exported units amounted to 1,512. Year-to-date through August, 9,184 units were shipped, down 7% from the same period in 2013.
Vehicle industry output reached 265,910 units in August, up 5.3% from July, but down 22.4% from August last year. Year-to-date through August, 2.08 million vehicles were produced, down 18% from the same period in 2013.
