São Paulo – Poultry exports had the best results ever registered in 2016 with 4.384 billion tons shipped abroad, according to data made available by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) this Tuesday (3).
The volume exported means a 1.9% jump over the 4.304 million tons of 2015, up until now the sector’s record, and includes all products, from fresh to processed poultry. The monthly average of shipments reached 365,300 tons last year, against an average of 358,700 tons in 2015.
However, in revenues, the sector declined 4.5% last year with USD 6.849 billion, an average of USD 570.8 million per month – in 2015, the monthly average reached USD 597.4 million with the total at USD 7.169 billion.
In a statement, ABPA’s CEO, Francisco Turra, says that the results confirm the sector’s strength, even in the face of this year’s economic difficulties and cost pressure.
“[The year] was marked by strong sales to many markets in Asia, Europe and Americas, with the highlight being China,” says Turra.
In December, poultry shipments declined 9.4% in comparison to the last month of 2015, reaching 362,200 tons. In revenues, there was a 4.7% drop to USD 574.1 million.
