São Paulo – The National Agency for the Study and Monitoring of Railway Investment Implementation in Algeria (Anesrif) has launched a program for the rehabilitation and modernization of 75 train stations, divided into three phases across the country. According to information released on Wednesday (5) by the state news agency APS, this aims to provide travelers with a more comfortable transportation option.
According to the Director of Communications at Anesrif, Abdelkader Mazar, the first phase of the project, which includes 19 stations, will be carried out by a consortium of three companies. The capital, Algiers, is included in this phase and will have three stations restored. Another unit will be built, and according to Mazar, it will feature an architecture that reflects “the culture and history of Algeria.”
The second batch will benefit 43 units, all located in the eastern part of the country. The third batch will involve 13 units in the western part of Algeria. According to Mazar, this project is expected to increase the attractiveness of the railway sector as a travel option, in addition to being part of efforts to improve the Algerian railway network. The construction of 21 more stations is already underway as part of another initiative by Anesrif.
According to data from the National Railway Transport Company (SNTF), the country has 4,560 kilometers of railway lines and 410 stations. Last year, the country completed studies for the construction of 2,400 kilometers of railways to connect the North to the South of the country.
