São Paulo – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Wednesday (17) in Évian, France, where the G7 summit took place. Brazil was one of the countries invited to attend the G7 meeting, as was Egypt, although neither is a member of the group. According to information released by the Egyptian government, the meeting between the two leaders focused on Brazil-Egypt relations.
According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi spoke with Lula about strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing existing channels of mutual consultation. He also discussed ongoing collaborative efforts to implement the provisions of the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed by the two countries in November 2024 and highlighted the substantial growth in Brazil-Egypt trade in recent years.
According to the Egyptian presidency’s statement, Lula praised the strong momentum in Brazil-Egypt bilateral relations and the expansion of cooperation mechanisms linking the two countries following Egypt’s accession to BRICS. He referred to the Strategic Partnership Agreement and Egypt’s Free Trade Agreement with Mercosur and spoke about expanding the volume of bilateral trade.
El-Sisi and Lula also discussed cooperation in international forums. According to the statement, Lula expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s efforts and for President El-Sisi’s personal role in restoring stability in the Middle East. He reiterated Brazil’s support for Egyptian approaches that prioritize lasting, comprehensive, and peaceful solutions to crises in the Middle East and across the African continent.
