São Paulo – Brazil had its second victory in the 1st Roots Beach Soccer World Cup at the Arena Gladiadores da Bola in the Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On Wednesday (9), the Brazilian team thrashed Tunisia 5-2 in the game that ended the second round of the competition.
Brazil will end its participation in the first phase of the cup on Thursday (10) at 9pm (BRT) against Mexico. There will be another 3 matches: Paraguay vs. Uruguay (5pm), Colombia vs. Chile (6pm), and Tunisia vs. Bolivia (8pm). The final match of the third and last round is France against Angola at 7pm.
The A group includes Mexico, Tunisia, Colombia, Paraguay and France, while the B group consists of Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia and Angola. The four best in each group will face each other in the quarterfinals on Friday (11). The semifinals are on Saturday (12). The playoff for the third place and the final are on Sunday (13).
The roots beach soccer is different from the conventional beach soccer, whose world tournament is held by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). Each team consists of six players (instead of five), and the game is split up into two twenty-minute periods (instead of twelve).
