Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian Wheelchair Basketball Confederation (CBBC) released this week the list of athletes for the men’s and women’s teams to play the Wheelchair Basketball World Championship from June 9 to 20, 2023, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The men’s team will be in Group A of the competition (alongside Australia, Italy, and the UAE). It will be a renewed group, with five athletes who recently competed in the last edition of the U-23 World Cup. “We will have a renewed men’s team, with athletes who will debut in the national team in official competitions. We will have the lowest average age for the man’s national team in the last 15 years,” said CBBC president Mário Belo.
Martoni Sampaio, coach of the women’s team, will bring more seasoned athletes, including those that participated in the Paralympic Games. The Brazilian women are in Group B and will face Australia, Canada, Spain, China, and Great Britain. The Wheelchair Basketball World Championship will have the participation of over 300 athletes, representing 16 men’s and 12 women’s teams.
The Brazilian men’s national team will bring the athletes: Dwan dos Santos (Adfego-GO), Sérgio Veiga (ADD Magic Hands-SP), Felipe Santos (Andef-RJ), Milley Lopez (CEE 01/Candangos-DF), João Padilha (CEPE-SC), Cristiano Clemente (ADD Magic Hands-SP), Renato da Silva (Gadecamp-SP), Amauri Viana (ADD Magic Hands-SP), Wallace Carvalho (ADD Magic Hands-SP), Rildo Saldanha (All Star Rodas-PA), Guilherme Lourenço (Kings Maringá-PR), and Eduardo da Silva (CAD SJRP-SP).
The women’s team will have Ana Kélvia (Adesul-CE), Denise Eusébio (Apac/Cascavel-PR), Perla Assunção (All Star Rodas-PA), Silvelane Oliveira (Irefes/Sesport-ES), Paola Klokler (Irefes/Sesport-ES), Vileide de Almeida (All Star Rodas-PA), Maxcileide Ramos (Irefes/Sesport-ES), Cleonete Reis (All Star Rodas-PA), Gabriela Oliveira (Adesul-CE), Ivanilde da Silva (Irefes/Sesport-ES), Oara Uchôa (Adesul-CE), and Lia Martins (Adesul-CE).
