Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian government will follow a worldwide tendency and give organic farming a boost, says Jean Pierre Medaets, at the Family Farming Secretariat of the Ministry of Agrarian Development.
Speaking at the 5th Agrobusiness Congress, Medaets declared that organic farming is important for various segments of the agricultural sector, beginning with family farming. He pointed out that it has reduced production costs, is more ecologically friendly and provides a higher quality of life for those farmer families who engage in it. There are also consumer benefits in the form of food that is free of chemicals and genetic modifications.
