The food sector is our flagship, however, there is space for us to expand the sales of manufactured products, besides commodities, a sector in which we’re already strong. The sector of agricultural machines is also opportune because Algeria and Egypt want to invest in agriculture and expand the farmed are to reduce their food imports in the next few years”, said Fernanda.
In 2013 and 2014, Egypt and Algeria were, respectively, the third and fourth largest importers of Brazilian products among Arab countries. Among African nations, Egypt is Brazil’s biggest buyer and Algeria comes in fourth.
In 2014, Brazil exported the amount of US$ 2.3 billion to Egypt, 5.1% more than the total exported in 2013. The main products sold were meat, sugar, maize, iron ore and agricultural machinery. To Algeria, shipments reached US$ 1.1 billion, a drop of 3.9% over 2013. Sugar, maize, meat, soybean oil and agricultural machinery topped the list of shipments.
