Foreign sales of the product totalled US$ 331.5 million last month, which corresponded to the shipment of 255,000 tonnes. The countries of the Middle East are still the main importers in terms of volume, with a total of 626,600 tonnes in the first nine months of this year.
External sales of the Brazilian product yielded US$ 101.5 million. In volume, 56,400 tonnes were shipped, 16% more than in the same month last year.
The shipping generated US$ 2.583 billion between January and September, against US$ 2.094 billion in the same period in 2004. The increase was greater than that registered in total shipments in the sector. To the president of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Antonio Sarkis Jr., the figures show that the Arab market still represents great space to be won.
The sector registered external sales that are 8.8% greater between the months of January and September this year in relation to the same period in 2004. Sugar and alcohol were the highlights in the basket of exported products, with an increase in 56.8% in its exports.
