Foreign sales of agricultural products grossed US$ 5.87 billion in January. A decline in prices of the main products sold has weighed down on revenues.

Overall exports of the product from Brazil were up 6.8%, but the volume sold to the Arab world has declined. Revenues have increased nonetheless.
The sales of the Brazilian product stood at US$ 426 million, a drop of 23% over the same month last year. For Egypt, however, shipments increased 30%, with revenues of US$ 72 million.
President of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) says that oil-dependent countries imported less from Brazil last month, which affected exports performance, but he bets on a recovery throughout the year.
Good crops and cheap oil have helped bring prices down in January. Importing countries stand to gain and costs tend to remain stable throughout 2015.
The estimation released by Conab establishes that this year’s production could vary between 44 and 46 million bags.
Some 36.2 million bags of the product were shipped, a volume 14.7% larger than in 2013. Sales to Arab countries were down.
Foreign sales of the sector in 2014 in Brazil grossed US$ 96.75 billion, down 3.2% from 2013.
Conab (National Supply Company) estimates that the 2014/2015 harvest will reach 202 million tons in grain production. Soybean still comes on top in both harvested volume and crop area.
The index calculated by FAO closed 2014 with a drop of 3.7%. The lone exception was the meat group, which recorded a high of 8.1%.
Brazil shipped 4.1 million tons last year, a 3% increase over 2013. It’s the largest volume ever registered. However, revenues dropped 0.2% in dollar but went up 9% in real.

Ministry of Agriculture forecasts that the Gross Domestic Product of the sector will amount to as high as 23% of the national product. Livestock productivity went up while the agriculture one dropped in 2014.
The biggest sugar carrying vessel in the world landed 106 thousand tons of the product at the Jebel Ali port. The shipment owned by Bunge Brasil left Santos port in November.
