The country is the world’s fourth largest producer, but is not among the main exporters. The Embrapa believes, however, that in ten years it may be top seven.

Santa Catarina-state based Cooperja processed 130,000 tonnes of rice last year and shipped 17.5% of it abroad, to Central America and South Africa. However, there are plans to supply the Middle East.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the total is US$ 121 billion. The greatest growth over last year was in products like potatoes, tobacco, oranges, maize, soybean, tomatoes and wheat.
Greater shipments are not resulting in greater revenues due to lower prices. The second half, however, promises stability in the price of the commodity.
Revenues from Brazilian exports to the region amounted to US$ 1.6 billion in the first half, up 30%. Total Brazilian poultry export revenues were up 7.2%.

Brazilian sector exports to the region totalled US$ 3.9 billion. In June, shipments were US$ 528 million, an increase of 2.5%.
The volume processed at plants in Mid-South Brazil was down 17.5% in the second half of June from the first half due to rainfall.
The country should only buy 51,000 tonnes from abroad this crop, according to projections from the Conab. The previous estimate was 163,000 tonnes, but domestic growers are supplying the national market.
The country exported 637,000 bags to the region in the first half. Revenues with shipments, however, were practically the same as those in the same period in 2012.
The volume was record for the first quarter, according to the IBGE, which has been tabulating the figures since 1997. A total of 8.1 million heads of cattle were slaughtered, up 12.7% over the same period in 2012.
Brazilian bovine meat exports generated US$ 2.5 billion in revenues according to Industry Association figures. The volume shipped increased by an even higher rate, 22.57%, to 562,000 tonnes.’
After a long dry spell and a decline in production, the United States should see a normal crop. Still, strong global demand will ensure that Brazilian exports have their space.
Survey shows that productivity increased in Brazil from 1975 through 2010, considering production increments stemming from efficiency and excluding those ascribable to increased use of production inputs.
