São Paulo – Brazilian coffee exports generated US$ 517.7 million in revenues in August, down 35.3% from August of last year, according to information from the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé). A total of 2,522,535 bags were shipped, down 13.6% using the same basis of comparison.
In July and August, the first two months of the 2012-2013 crop, exports reached US$ 951.2 million, down 28.6% from the same period of 2011. Sales amounted to 4,644,824 bags, down 6.8% from July and August, 2011.
According to a press statement, the Cecafé director general Guilherme Braga has said that exports in 2012 should range from 28 million to 29 million bags, lower than the previously forecasted 33 million bags. He claimed that the product took too long to reach the market in the second half due to rains, and that there were no significant inventories left at the end of the preceding crop.
The United States are the leading importer of Brazilian coffee this year, followed by Germany, Italy, Japan and Belgium.
