São Paulo – Brazilian coffee exports should be down by 5 million bags this year from 2011, according to an estimate disclosed by the CEO of the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé), Guilherme Braga, in a press release this Thursday (6th).
“The problems we had with crop-to-market flow, including rains and low pricing, have caused supply to decrease. As a result, exports are expected to end 2012 5 million bags down from 2011,” said the executive.
From January to November, 25,341,472 60-kilogram bags were shipped, down 16.9% from the same period last year. Export revenues stood at US$ 5.753 billion, down 27.1% using the same basis of comparison, according to Cecafé.
In November, 2,797,769 bags of Brazilian coffee were exported, down 8% from the same month in 2011. Revenues reached US$ 583.588 million, down 31.1%.
Brazil’s main export targets are the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan and Belgium.
