São Paulo – October 5 and 6 in the United Arab Emirates will see the 3rd World Green Economy Summit. The event is held by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) and themed “Driving Global Green Economy.”
Subjects will include sustainable projects financing, the use of solar power, implementation of the actions set forth in the Paris Climate Agreement (signed in 2015 during COP-21), the involvement of people in leadership positions driving a green economy, and sustainable action possibilities through public-private partnerships.
The UN Conference on Climate Change (COP-21) led to the signing of a treaty ratified by 195 countries to fight the effects of climate change and cut greenhouse gas emissions. The COP-21 president Laurent Fabius will be one of the speakers at the Dubai summit.
Panelists will also include Iyad Abumoghli, director and regional representative of the United Nations Environment Programme for West Asia; Adnan Amin, the director-general of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA); Matt Kennedy, the head of Strategy and Business with the International Energy Research Centre; and Matthew Griffiths, the senior programme manager for green growth and water issues in the Environment Directorate of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development (OECD).
The summit also intends to advertise Dubai as a capital for green economy and sustainable development. The Dewa headquarters, launched in 2013, is one of the biggest green government buildings in the world.
