São Paulo – The minister of Agriculture of Egypt, Salaah Mohammed Abd Almo’men, stated that his country has not suspended the import of beef from Brazil. The information was provided by the minister to the ambassador of Brazil in Cairo, Marco Brandão, at a meeting in the Egyptian capital. The Egyptian ban to the purchase of beef from the state of Paraná was confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture halfway through the month.
The ambassador and the minster met because the government of Brazil is promoting several activities to inform its beef buyers about the case of mad cow disease in Paraná. The case, which occurred in 2010, is atypical. The animal, which died that year, did not develop mad cow disease, but carried the agent that may develop it.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, at the meeting, the ambassador provided clarification about the death of the animal, which is a unique case, not classic.
