São Paulo – At the Rio Summer Olympics this Thursday (11), 26-year-old Egyptian weightlifter Mohamed Mahmoud won the bronze medal in the under-77 kg category. The gold medal went to the Kazakh Nijat Rahimov and China’s Xiaojun Lyu finished second.
It was the second bronze medal for Egypt in these Olympics. The first one went to Sara Ahmed in the under-69 kg women’s weightlifting event last Wednesday.
In fencing, 27 year-old Ines Boubakri of Tunisia defeated the Russian Aida Shanaeva in the individual event to win the bronze medal. Russia’s Inna Deriglazova placed first, with Italy’s Elisa Di Francisca in second. This is the first medal for Tunisia in Rio.
