São Paulo – The Lebanese embassy to Brasília, in cooperation with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will launch a humanitarian fund to support the Arab country. The announcement will be made during an event on August 3, also marking two years since the explosion at the Port of Beirut on August 4, 2020. Pictured above, a market in Tripoli, Lebanon.
The fund aims to help the Lebanese people reconstruct the country, which is experiencing a challenging economic situation. More information will be announced at the event, including how donations can be made. The fund’s honorary president will be the former president of Brazil, Michel Temer, who will be at the launch.
According to the organization, the event will also feature other authorities from the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary powers, as well as important players from the Lebanese community in Brazil in different states.
The embassy stressed in recent years, Lebanon has been facing one of the worst crises of the last 150 years, according to a report released by the World Bank. In addition to the economic hardships, the country faces barriers emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic, the refugee crisis that led thousands of Syrians to seek shelter in Lebanon, the explosion in the port of the Lebanese capital, and the war between Russia and Ukraine.
