São Paulo – Over 3,000 people, among breeders, sportsmen, and public in general, went to the Santo Amaro Horse Club in the southeastern city of São Paulo, between March 25 and 28, to participate in the 19th Interstate Arabian Horse Exhibition.
Promoted by the Brazilian Arabian Horse Breeders Association (ABCCA), the event generated over US$ 850,000 in business, as a result of auctions and direct trade between breeders, in Brazil and on the foreign market. The program included the Best of 2003 award, including the Best in Endurance.
Breeders from the whole country and from abroad were present at the event, which included over 200 animals evaluated on the track, auctioned and used for leisure. The animals available for free Test Rides greatly pleased those present. More than 400 people, between children and adults, rode thoroughbred Arabian horses.
Jackpot doubled
Funds in the 2004 Arabian Horse Jackpot, collected at the Covering Auction, to be distributed among breeders, was more than double the value last year. The average price in the auction of Saturday night, 27, was over US$ 2,200, with the highest sale at around US$ 12,700.
The ABCCA event increased the 2004 Jackpot to over the US$ 75,000. This total is due to the organization having doubled the percentage it invests in the fund, increasing the percentage to be destined to prizes from 30% to 60%, revenues with sales were also greater this year than last year, totalling around US$ 130,000.
A new fact is the organization decision to destine 35% of the 2004 Jackpot to the winners of performance competitions. "Our objective of reverting significant quantities of money in prizes to breeders is being reached," announced Luciano Cury, president o the ABCCA.
In 2003, the Jackpot was around US$ 36,600, which was 30% of the total the around US$ 122,000 collected in auctions. The 2003 Jackpot prizes were handed in on the same night as the 2004 covering auction. First place, breeder Florivaldo de Carvalho, of breeding farm Estância Califórnia, who owns horse Aktor HCF, received a total of around US$ 14,600, in cash.
Official auction reaches average greater than US$ 2,400
With a record public of over 500 people, the return to official auctions, on Sunday 28, negotiated 40 lots, among them horses and mares for mounting and sport, as well as animals with potential for disputes on the racing track.
After almost a decade since the last official breed auction, the current director of the ABCCA has returned to using an important tool to attract new breeders and sales opportunities for producers of the most varied sizes of horse breeding farms.
Sales reached an average of over US$ 2,400 and total business was around US$ 98,000. The record lot was mare Elektra HBV, from Boa Vista breeding farm, sold for around US$ 18,000 to breeder Léo Steinbruch, of breeding farm Endurance. "The auction included some high level animals which could have been sold as elite animals," stated Cury.
According to the ABCCA president, the greatest fact to be commemorated is that 25% of the animals in the auction were sold to six new breeders. To them, the ABCCA offered the first six months as breeders associated to the organization free of charge.
