São Paulo – From January to November this year, revenues from Brazilian honey exports reached US$ 65.2 million, a figure 24.1% higher than in the same period of 2010. In terms of volume, exports reached 20,600 tonnes, 17.8% more than in the first eleven months of last year.
The leading buyers of Brazilian honey include the United Arab Emirates, Canada, France, Cape Verde, Peru, China, Argentina and Japan. The United States were the leading destination for the product, having generated revenues of US$ 42.83 million, more than half the total export revenues from honey shipments. Germany and the United Kingdom came next, at US$ 12.21 million and US$ 4.82 million, respectively.
To Enio Queijada, the Agribusiness manager at the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae), the foreign market is important to Brazilian beekeepers, and in 2012 the challenge will continue to be selling high value-added, differentiated honey, despite the existence of international technical barriers.
