Rio de Janeiro – Despite a 0.3% drop in nationwide figures, industry output went up in nine out of 15 areas tracked by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in August from July this year. As per the Monthly Industrial Survey – Regional Physical Production, Mato Grosso saw the strongest hike at 3%, followed by Bahia at 2.7% and Pernambuco at 2.6%.
Industry production also grew in Ceará (1.5%), Rio Grande do Sul (0.8%), Paraná (0.7%), Minas Gerais (0.5%) and Goiás (0.2%). Six states saw production go down: Amazonas (-5.3%), Pará (-1.1%), Espírito Santo (-0.9%), São Paulo (-0.9%), Santa Catarina (-0.7%) and Rio de Janeiro (-0.3%). The IBGE also keeps track of industry trends in the nine Northeastern states as a whole, which saw output go up 1.5%.
Year-on-year in August, industry picked up in 11 out of 15 areas, including Rio Grande do Sul (12.3%), Pernambuco (11.7%) and Pará (11%).
