São Paulo – The Brazilian college Faculdades Integradas Rio Branco is partnering up with the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce to offer an MBA in International Business Administration with an emphasis in Arab countries. The course will be taught on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the campus in São Paulo’s Lapa district. Arab Chamber members will get a third off the price.
“The idea is to attract people who work or aspire to work in foreign trade and who have a particular interest in the Arab countries,” says course coordinator Willian Nogueira. The non-degree course will include three Arab-themed subjects: History of the Arab World, Islamic Law and Islamic Finance. Case studies in other subjects will also revolve around experiences in the Arab countries.
The course will review and explore notions of international economics, international business finance, import/export related administration, and foreign trade logistics, among other subjects. According to Nogueira, the Arab Chamber will assist with tailoring the contents, selecting the professors and providing material for the case studies.
The Arab Chamber’s Human Resources director Márcio Oliveira claims the organization has decided to build upon a past experience. Last year, a class of Arab Chamber staff graduated at Faculdades Integradas Rio Branco from an Executive MBA in Administration and Leadership in Trade and International Relations, which was for Arab Chamber employees-only. This year’s course is also open to the Chamber’s personnel.
This year’s MBA, however, will comprise 60 hours more than the last one, besides focusing on Arab countries. “Our members will get more Arab-oriented information,” Oliveira says regarding the specialization course, which is also open to the general public. The HR director believes the MBA program will make students better prepared to do business with Arab countries. Annual trade between the region and Brazil amounts to USD 19.2 billion.
The course will cover Logistics Administration and Trade Marketing, Financial Mathematics, International Scenario Analysis, Business Strategy, International Economics, Cost Management on the International Market, People Management in Global Businesses, Corporative Finance, International Finance and Administration of International Contracts.
The curriculum also includes Accounting and Budget Control, Foreign Exchange Operations Management, International Marketing Foundations, International Marketing Management and Planning, International Business Planning, Import/Export Operations Management, International Logistics, and Business Internationalization.
The MBA program will comprise 18 months of onsite classes and another six months for students to work on their final papers. The workload is 420 hours, with classes lasting from 7:10pm to 10:40pm, beginning on August 23rd. Enrolments will be accepted until August 19th. Candidates will undergo a selection process in two stages: in the first stage, they will be required to fill out an application form and submit a resume; the second stage will be an interview. Arab Chamber members will get a discount for as long as they remain members.
The holder of a doctoral degree, a PhD and a master’s in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnics School of the University of São Paulo (USP), Course coordinator Willian Nogueira has been a professor since 2001. He joined Faculdades Integradas Rio Branco in 2006. Faculdades Integradas Rio Branco is maintained by the São Paulo Rotary Foundation.
