Rio de Janeiro – The Rio 2016 Organizing Committee announced this Tuesday (02) that it has sold 75% of tickets for this year’s Olympic Games. The competition will run from August 05 to 21. So far, 2.75 million tickets have been sold for the Olympics events, which include 42 different sports. The information was released at a press conference at the Committee’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
Paralympics ticket sales stand at 330,000, slightly less than expected by the Committee. "We are involved in a variety of marketing actions to increase ticket sales,” said Rio2016 spokesperson and executive director for Communications, Mário Andrada. The Paralympic Games will take place from September 07 to 18.
Brazilian states where the most tickets were bought are Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Bahia and the Federal District. The top-selling sports are football, basketball, volleyball and track and field. Ticket prices range from BRL 10 to BRL 100 (USD 2.5 to USD 25 at current exchange rates).
