São Paulo – Brazil exported 343,500 tonnes of poultry in October, up 2.3% from October 2011. Export revenues hit US$ 717 million, up 1.4% according to figures released this Thursday (8th) by the Brazilian Poultry Union (Ubabef).
Year-to-date through October 31st, 3.266 million tonnes of poultry were shipped abroad, up 1% from the same period last year. Export revenues stood at US$ 6.334 billion, down 6% from January to October 2011.
“Poultry exports are balancing out the industry, countering the adverse scenario that still plagues [Brazilian] agroindustries, because the domestic market absorbed only half of our cost increase,” said the Ubabef executive president Francisco Turra, according to a press statement.
The organization explains that the hike in prices of inputs such as maize and soy, which are used as animal feed, has corroded the industry’s profitability this year.
