São Paulo – Qatar University, based in Doha, will accept registrations from January 10th to March 10th for an Arabic language program. People from all countries can apply for the course, but the candidates will have to go through a selection process. Classes start in August and will last two semesters.
To apply, one has to be between 18 and 40 years old, has to have high school diploma and basic knowledge of Arabic, with mastery of the alphabet an essential requirement. The student also needs to be able to communicate in English or Arabic with the university’s management and the academic community.
Along with the application, the student needs also to submit a student visa request for Qatar. Those that don’t fulfill the requirements for the visa will have their applications for the course turned down. According to Qatar University’s website, the organization offers orientation and support to the applicants during visa request process.
The course costs USD 365 per credit/hour, with the student required to apply for a minimum of 11 credit/hours per semester. The cost of housing varies according to the student’s options. In Qatar University’s own dorms, the cost stands at USD 219 per month, including a double room, meals and bus transportation to the campus. Outside the university, housing and transportation costs reach USD 2,000 per month.
For non-local students, there’s a possibility for full scholarships. The scholarship application must be done concurrently with the course application, but there’s strong competition for the limited number of scholarships.
The scholarships cover the cost with round-trip airline tickets, the cost of the course and books used in the classroom, the student visa and residence and university housing permit, with three meals per day, laundry service, access to the gym, wireless internet and campus transportation.
