According to anba: Industrial production in Brazil grew 2.7% in June when compared to the previous month. According to figures disclosed last week by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This is the greatest growth since October 2007, when the sector grew 3.5%. In comparison with the same period last year, expansion was 6.6%. The growth verified in June points to "significant recovery" of activity in the country, in the evaluation of the IBGE coordinator, S?lvio Sales. According to the study, Brazilian industrial production has grown 6.3% in the first half of 2008, in comparison with the same period in 2007, the largest expansion for the period since 2004. "The sector is breaking a stability record that may be observed in production, at a high level, presenting a great leap. And what is more important is that this result is the consequence of broad growth, with a high level of dispersion," stated Sales. In June, 23 of the 27 areas researched posted growth. The main contribution came from the vehicle sector (9.8%), followed by machinery for offices and information technology equipment (14.2%), non-metallic ores (5.8%), other chemical products (2.6%) and rubber and plastic (4.4%). On the other hand, reductions identified in editing and printing (4.5%) and food (0,6%) held the positive results back a little. S?lvio Sales also pointed out the good performance of capital goods (machinery and equipment), which presented the most intensive expansion among the categories of use (7.7%), followed by durable consumer goods (7.0%). There was also expansion in intermediary goods (2.8%) and semi- and non-durable consumer goods (1.2%). In comparison with June last year, there was growth in production in 21 of the 27 activities analysed.
