Brasília – The minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque (pictured, L), said he believes in a Brazil-India partnership to make ethanol an internationally traded commodity. The minister participated last Thursday (23) in a business opportunity seminar on energy and mining between both countries in New Delhi.
“Brazil is the world’s top sugarcane ethanol producer. India is the world’s top sugarcane producer and I believe we should and could cooperate in this field,” the minister said in an interview with TV Brasil. “This cooperation involves developing technology aimed at benefiting all. It’s ethanol, the biofuel, becoming an internationally traded commodity,” he added.
In the past, Brazil had discussed other attempts at making ethanol an internationally traded commodity, particularly with the United States, when Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and George W. Bush were presidents. The project didn’t move forward, though.
