São Paulo – The organizers of Expodireto Cotrijal, one of the main agricultural fairs in Latin America, are awaiting confirmation of the presence of Arab importers at the 13th edition of the fair, to take place from March 5th to 9th, in the city of Não-Me-Toque, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. With expenses covered by the organizers of the event, importers from all continents have been invited to participate, including buyers from Arab nations like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia.
According to the organizers of the event, Expodireto Cotrijal is among the largest in the region in terms of revenues, with R$ 984.3 million negotiated in last year’s edition. The fair is turned to business and, in the international pavilion, there are roundtables with suppliers of machinery and agricultural implements, grain – including maize, soy, wheat, rice and barley -, dairy and dairy products, pork, poultry, beef and goat, as well as logistics, specifically for road transportation.
According to Via Marketing, the company responsible for administration of the international area at the fair, the intention is to expand foreign participation with each year. In the edition this year, some 70 importers will come from Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Cuba, the United States, Germany, France, Russia, Croatia, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, New Zealand, Poland and China, as well as the Arabs.
Aimed at making the fair strictly commercial and professional, the admittance of those under the age of 16 is not allowed. Last year, Expodireto Cotrijal received 161,100 people and 330 exhibitors. The fair includes an exhibition of agricultural products and also promotes a great debate on agribusiness, with a series of talks. It is promoted by Cotrijal, an agricultural cooperative in the region.
As was the case in previous editions, this year, during the fair, there should be national maize, soy, dairy and forestry forums, among others, with debates about sector policies, crops and perspectives for the international market. There should also be talks about family farming, cooperatives, cattle genetics, sustainability and agro-energy, among others. The event should also include the Golden Seed 2012 Award ceremony, to honour Francisco Turra, the former agriculture minister of Brazil and current president of the Brazilian Poultry Union (Ubabef).
