São Paulo – Expodireto Cotrijal, the agribusiness industry show opening on Monday (5) in Não-Me-Toque, Rio Grande do Sul, will feature a lecture on Arab countries. Importers and diplomats from the region are also expected to show up. The show is one of the industry’s biggest in Brazil. Last year, it saw BRL 2.12 billion (USD 651.8 million) in deals made.
Visitors from 70 countries are expected, Via Marketing director Régis Mendes said in an interview with ANBA. Via Marketing handles international affairs for the expo, which is held by cooperative Cotrijal.
The lecture on Arab countries will be delivered on Tuesday (6), 3 pm by Marcus Vinícius, coordinator of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce Information Management department. Besides providing an overview, Vinícius will discuss Brazil’s trade with the region, give tips on how to do business with Arab executives, and explain the Arab Chamber’s work.
Arab Chamber special projects advisor Tamer Mansour said Rio Grande do Sul, the state where Expodireto takes place, is one of Brazil’s top food producers, and that is why the Chamber will be there. Food products are one of the biggest-selling categories in sales from Brazil and the Arab countries.
In addition to Vinícius, Business Arab Chamber Business Executive Hans Lazarte will also be at the expo. He will get in touch with companies interested in the Arab market and invite fairgoers to the Brazil-Arab Countries Economic Forum taking place on April 2 in São Paulo. The event will cover the future of Brazil-Arab relations. Vinícius will also discuss it in his lecture.
Expodireto will feature international trade-oriented actions such as exporter-importer meetings and a road show on investment in partnership with the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. According to Régis Mendes, Arab diplomats are expected to attend. Executives from Arab countries and elsewhere have been invited.
International trade events will be joined by agribusiness sectors including machinery and equipment, fruit and juices, fishing products, oilseed farming, soy and maize, renewable energies, infrastructure etc. The importer-exporter sessions will focus primarily on machinery, equipment and related fields, like spare parts, explains director Mendes.
Expodireto will welcome a delegation from the Port of Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands. They plan to speak with cereal and trading companies to offer the Port’s services, with an eye to making it into a hub for trade with West Africa and even Europe.
The expo in Não-Me-Toque was first held in 2000. It sees some 250,000 visitors each edition, featuring roughly 500 exhibitors offering machinery, crop and livestock farming, family farming projects and products, environment-related initiatives and products, research and services.
