São Paulo – Brazil and Morocco opened their World Cup campaigns with a 1–1 draw on Saturday (13) in New Jersey, United States. Ismael Saibari gave Morocco the lead in the 21st minute of the first half after receiving a pass from Brahim Díaz and capitalizing on a disorganized Brazilian defense.
Vini Jr. equalized after taking a pass from Bruno Guimarães, dribbling past a defender, and placing the ball into the left corner beyond goalkeeper Bono.
Morocco started the match in control of midfield and created the better chances before Saibari opened the scoring. Brazil responded well after conceding and soon found an equalizer.
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti made several changes in the second half, but they were not enough to break the deadlock.
Both teams return to action on June 19, when Morocco faces Scotland and Brazil takes on Haiti, the other teams in Group C of the FIFA World Cup, being held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
