São Paulo – A delegation from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy met on Monday (6) in Brasília with Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, and First Lady Janja da Silva. Both meetings focused on energy partnerships between the two countries. The visit followed Silveira’s trip to Riyadh in January, when the Saudi delegation’s visit to Brazil was agreed upon.
According to posts on the Brazilian minister’s social media accounts, Brazil has “a great deal” to contribute and learn in the energy sector through international cooperation. The meeting also covered technical exchanges, capacity building, and partnerships in clean and sustainable technologies.
“This meeting reinforces the partnership between our countries and expands dialogue on issues that are essential to the future, such as a just energy transition, universal access to energy, and sustainable solutions to improve people’s quality of life,” Silveira said.
The first lady also said on her social media accounts that she exchanged experiences on projects implemented in Brazil and Saudi Arabia, including the Sustainable Community Kitchens initiative, which promotes food security through the use of clean energy generation and women’s leadership.
“Energy poverty is a global challenge that can only be overcome through dialogue, the exchange of experiences, and a collective commitment to building solutions that improve people’s lives,” Janja said. Members of Forward7, a Saudi initiative that promotes clean cooking solutions for vulnerable communities, also attended the meeting.
